The Convair SST Family (Aerospace Projects Review- eAPR)

Posted 04-30-2010 at 11:00 PM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)

Scott Lowther's journal Aerospace Projects Review (eAPR) did an issue (Volume 2, Number 2) several months back in the end of 2009 had an interesting article that Scott himself had written on a family of SST aircraft derived from the unbuilt B-58C Hustler variant:

The only version of the B-58 Hustler built was the B-58A version along with a small number of TB-58A conversion trainers....

North American SST (Aerospace Projects Review- eAPR)

Posted 07-18-2009 at 11:00 PM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)

Scott Lowther's journal Aerospace Projects Review (eAPR) did an issue (Volume 2, Number 1) several months ago that had a fascinating article written by noted aviation author Dennis Jenkins. The 10 page article covered North American's 1961 design for a supersonic transport:

Somewhat atypically for an aerospace company of the day, North American opted to take a more conservative developmental...

Flieger Revue, May 2009: Chengdu J-10B

Posted 07-10-2009 at 08:59 PM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)

There has been a very fascinating twist on the Chengdu J-10 development lately. For about the last three years there has been a lot of speculation about a planned upgraded version of the J-10. The baseline model that's now in service with the PLAAF is the J-10A with the two seater designated J-10AS (the "S" being a Chinese word for two seater, I think).

The upgraded version was the J-10B (though some Western publications call the J-10AS the J-10B) and there had been a lot...

International Air Power Review: Volume 25 (Part Two!)

Back in March I had posted about the publication of my profile artwork in Volume 25 of International Air Power Review. Here are some photos from the issue that show how my artwork was integrated into Andreas Rupprecht's fine article into the development, history, and deployment of the Xian JH-7 strike fighter:

The first subscribers have already received their issues of Volume 25 of International Air Power Review which features 13 of my profiles in it's "Focus Aircraft" feature, a long and detailed article on the developmental and service history of the Xian JH-7 and its variants.

The Xian JH-7 is a twin engine tandem seat fighter bomber now in widespread service with the Navy and Air Force

The Changhe Z-10 helicopter gunship (International Air Power Review, Vol 23/Winter)

Posted 04-27-2008 at 02:00 AM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)
Tags iapr, z-10

I had previously posted about the publication of my profile art of the new Changhe Z-10 attack helicopter now being fielded by the Chinese People's Liberation Army. That article was authored by Andreas Rupprecht who I have had the distinct pleasure of collaborating on a whole series of articles on unbuilt combat aircraft designs and prototypes as well as the new J-10 fighter of China. Many of these designs have received their first detailed exposure in the Western press either in the pages of the...

Jet-X Box Designs- Libyan Arab Airlines

Posted 04-27-2008 at 01:42 AM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)

This is another box design for the Jet-X Millenium Series of 1/400 scale diecast collectible aircraft. This box was used for two different releases, one an Airbus A300-600R and the other an Airbus A310. I wasn't sure how the effect would come out of an tailfin at night illuminated by the fin logo spot light, but it came out just fine:

Jet-X Box Designs- Thai Airways International

Posted 04-14-2008 at 05:11 PM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)

I did this box design for the Jet-X Millenium Series of 1/400 scale diecast collectible aircraft. This box was used for two different releases, one a BAe-146-200 and the other a BAe-146-300. It's one of my favorites that I've done so far:

These are some better images from the high-resolution file made in Adobe Illustrator (front first, then back):

The WZ-10 helicopter gunship (Flieger Revue, December 2007 issue)

Posted 01-07-2008 at 08:57 PM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)

The following sneak peek was published in an issue of the German aviation magazine Flieger Revue several months ago:

The article being previewed is a short update on the status of the newest attack helicopter in the world, WZ-10, a development of several Chinese aerospace companies including the Changhe Aircraft Industries Group (CAIG), the China Helicopter Research and Development Institute...

The Chengdu J-10 (Focus Aircraft- International Air Power Review, Volume 22/Fall)

Posted 01-01-2008 at 08:57 PM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)
Tags iapr, j-10

Several months ago I had posted about how the German aviation magazine Flieger Revue* had published an article by Andreas Rupprecht on the developmental history of the Chengdu J-10, the advanced canard-delta multirole fighter that is now operational with the PLAAF.

A more detailed history that includes technical aspects of the Chengdu J-10 fighter program also authored by Andreas Rupprecht was recently published in the premium quarterly publication International Air Power Review (IAPR)...
