Google Earth + Aeronautical Charts + 3D Airspace = UBERCOOLNESS

This is awesome. The nice part is that this also includes terminal area charts and flyways. And though the presentation is a bit rough, they also used Google SketchUp to do 3D representations of Class B airspace which really helps visualize that whole upside down wedding cake layout:

One of the most beautiful aviation photos ever taken...

Avro Vulcan B.1 in white antiflash colors...that's damn sexy, boys.

Trivia: The white antiflash paint used on the Avro Vulcans when they first entered service is the exact same paint used on the Concordes, made by Cellon Ltd, which was founded in the UK in 1911. The formulation that was used for the Vulcans was found to be ideal for heat dissipation on the Concorde.

Inexpensive frames for 6 x 18 inch prints

Posted 09-14-2009 at 11:20 AM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)

I've gotten questions regarding how I display my 6 x 18 inch prints and had posted this in the Airlinebuzz forum but I think it's worth sharing with everyone who follows my blog .

I recently found some very inexpensive but nice looking frames for my 6 x 18 inch prints:

I found these at Michael's for less than $10- the frame is black wood, glass front. I didn't use a mat for this,...

SHOW: Supercon 2009 (this Saturday, 9/12/09)

Tags supercon

I will be at Supercon 2009 in Arlington, TX, this Saturday with my artwork. Supercon is a scale model show hosted by the Fort Worth IPMS group. They are working to get me set up next to the What-If SIG tables as some of what I am interested in overlaps with their aviation interests.

From their informational flyer:

Scalefest 2009

Tags scalefest

Another successful show under the belt! Previewed plenty of upcoming artwork as well as met plenty of interesting folks as has been one of the distinct pleasures of exhibiting my art at shows like the DFW Airliners Show 2 weeks ago and at Scalefest hosted by IPMS/North Central Texas at the Grapevine Convention Center today. As has been customary, my thanks go out to the following folks:
  • Sean Glaspell, head organizer for Scalefest for another year of taking my last minute paperwork;
  • Brad

The Dallas/Fort Worth Airliners Show....

Posted 05-17-2009 at 09:16 PM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)

Today was a surprise for me at the turnout and interest in my artwork at the DFW Airliners Show which was held at the DFW Marriott South at Centreport. Considering that the show for the first time is on a Sunday and was 9am to 3pm instead of the 8am to 4pm that it's been in the past, I thought the turnout was quite good and things went very well for me at my tables. Lots of folks came by and it was nice to catch with some familiar faces and meet many of you for the first time.

So

PHOTOS: What can Brown do for you?

Posted 11-05-2008 at 11:14 PM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)

Back one Wednesday in September I had some free time early in the morning and decided to swing by Founders' Plaza to see what could be had with intent of catching the push back and departure of one of UPS' new 747-400Fs but instead found that usual morning flight being flown by the just as appealing MD-11F. Mmmmm, trijets. Three engines? Love it. Four engines? Love it, too, but three engines are just conceptually cooler to my mind. So here's a series of shots on a hazy morning of the UPS MD-11F...

The last set of the best shots of that day, these were later in the day, the weather was better....slightly.....

^Last of the classics! UPS has only 3 747-200Fs left in its fleet and they'll be retired in January,...

Win an 11x14 inch print!

Posted 07-24-2008 at 10:11 AM by Sentinel Chicken (The Chicken Works: The Aviation Art of JP Santiago)

Having a website and forum isn't a cheap venture, particularly with the bandwidth and traffic we have on my sites and the Airlinebuzz forum. Periodically my webmaster will have raffles for aviation related prizes graciously donated by members of the Airlinebuzz community and its retail sponsors to help offset the operating costs for the site.

I've always contributed some of my artwork as prizes and this time again it's no different.

Information about the prints I'm offering

IPMS-NCT Scalefest 2008 post-game show

Compared to Scalefest 2007, I had a lot more fun at this show and it was great to see some of you from last year. Special thanks go out to not only those of you who got prints from me this year, but to those that took the time to stop by and chat. I hope those of you who picked up my business cards at the show have found this blog more easily than what was the case last year!

I would be remiss to not
